Salt from the ocean and tumbled rocks, washed ashore, are marvelous creations to base your design concept around.
Inspired by the healing rituals practiced in European salt mines since the early 19th Century, the hues woven throughout this Signature 16 custom rug reflect the many different colors of salt. From the Himalayan Mountains to the salt mines in France, design ideas can be found everywhere. Our homes should be the place where we feel most calm and peace, and what better style to promote these feelings of serenity than a Zen inspired rug, like those featured in our Mafi International Signature 16 Collection.
Zen rock gardens, or karesansui (translated as "dry-mountain-water"), originated in medieval Japan and are renowned for their simplicity and serenity.
The most famous of these can be found in Kyoto at the 15th-century Ryoan-ji, the Temple of the Peaceful Dragon . Zen gardens were originally inspired by Chinese poetry and ink landscape paintings of the 9thand 10th centuries and have gained international popularity over the centuries. We took a minimalist approach when designing the rug shown above, focusing on simple repetition and harmonious colors. The Mafi International Custom Program allows the designer to have the ability to create designs and custom color area rugs in a 3D environment, where colors and textures become alive and tangible, all from a simple line drawing. This is an invaluable tool for the creative mind!
