Let's give a round of applause to the Pantone Color Institute, the color of 2015 is Marsala, which is a bold change from the previous season's vibrant spectrum.
Over the past several years, we have seen Tango Tangerine, Emerald Green, and last seasons hard to wrap my design mind around, Radiant Orchid. Marsala, a red infused with earthy brown, is the closest we have come to neutral territory in quite some time. Lighter in saturation than 70's burgundy, softer and more natural than my iconic 90's maroon infused matte M.A.C. lipstick, the wine inspired hue is very modern. Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute offered a few choice words to describe the influential hue, "...hardy, robust, satisfying, fulfilling...A certain glamor is attached to this color...".
Pantone addressed the integration of Marsala in interior design and referenced the ability to enhance textured surfaces such a rugs and upholstered surfaces. The rug design above is one of Mafi International's custom designs from Mafi Signature 16 collection. As usual, our color forecast team in Seattle has been in tune with Pantone prediction and ahead of the curve!.We have chosen to combine a few colors from the Pantone Color Report for 2015, Glacier Gray and Scuba Blue, which represents a modern design perspective for this vintage inspired hue. Driven by the Marsala infused wool, gray tones support the earthy hue by bringing out the pure tones of the 2015 color of the year.
