December 15 is International Tea Day! International Tea Day is observed to raise awareness of the importance of tea and its culture around the world, as well as to promote the health benefits of tea and to encourage sustainable tea practices.
Tea also has a strong connection with area rugs. Not only is it often used in the finishing steps to tea-dye some of our area rugs (particularly from our Indian and Nepalese weaving centers), but its origins are strongly linked to many of the countries where our area rugs are woven.
The traditional Iranian drink is made from black tea leaves served strong with bright yellow rock candy. The Chinese drink Gong Fu tea uses green, oolong, black and white teas brewed in small pots and served in small cups. India, a huge producer and consumer of tea, enjoys Chai blends served in clay cups with many spices like ginger, peppermint, cardamom and cinnamon added into it for flavor.
On this International Tea Day, try something new as there's a whole world of flavors to discover!
